Peter Florian
Peter Florian's art work is constantly changing. To him the artist is a seeker for new ways to express himself. This search should never end since he considers routine as the greatest enemy of creativity. With "Smoke-Cycles" ( 2004 ), a series of 13 small paintings, he started to design his paintings in a tree-dimensional way, buy using different material such as wood, screws, nails, wire and other objects. The paintings impressed by the new uneven and rough surface texture, inviting to touch them. Beside the visual aspect of art this initiates a more physical and sensual interaction.
Later on he reworked his art catalogue "Works on paper" ( 1998 ) ba tearing pages out of it, cutting or tearing them into pieces and by sticking them together and painting them over, creating a new painting.
The result was the "Catalogue Series" ( 37 works ) and the "Gate-Series" ( 10 works ). In "Gate-Series" he focused on the female genitals. Additionally to the material used in "Smoke-Cycles" he used panty hoses and pictures as means of composition. He developed a way of expression which clearly stands out of painting. The message is expressed by collage or assemblage. The painting seems to be more abstract, textured and more monochrome in colour.
For his latest work, the "Young-ass-Series" ( 2007 ) he took pictures from the female buttock. He sticked the picture on canvas and painted the background afterwards. Painting here has a solely structural character simply to intensify and point out the female buttock by means of colours matching the photo. Out of this series he designed the first Styrian "Young-ass-Calendar 2008", in the style of the commonly designed "Young-Winegrower" or "Young-Farmer" Calendar. Peter Florian's humorous nevertheless erotic homage to women.
Born 1964 in Gmünd/NÖ - painter and graphic artist - freelance artist since 1990 - living and working in Weiz next to Graz.
